Group Blog

I'm a huge collaboration person, especially when it comes to 99% of everything related to work. I work really well in teams but often end up doing most of the work in a situation where people ride on my abilities. That just isn't good for me. On the off chance, I'm assigned a good group though, I still flourish and end up doing better, having good people on my side. All of this being said, I plan to ride solo for this project. The ideas in my mind are often confusing to other people. I can confidently call myself creative. This can come across as a very in-your-face thing, and for this project which allows for infinite wiggle room, I'd like to keep those ideas in between me and you (Cambridge examiner reading this). In researching making a short film, I have some ideas I like. These ideas are ones I don't think other people would really like.  One short film I looked at was "Anima" directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. It uses an excerpt of music the 2019 Thom Yorke/Radiohead Album of the same name. Most of the short film takes place on a subway car. The riders of the subway are all nodding off in similar fashions in tune with the music. It has a dystopian feel, as they are all dressed the same way, and move in a way that seems forced. One character, the subject, is able to move out of this sync, on his own. It felt like an extended music video, which I thought was really cool. The lighting in particular caught my eye, with large crypt-like hallways cast to the walls with scary moving shadows of the dystopian people. Seeing the subject of the movie break away from the monotony and structure of the dystopia was shown very intelligently by Paul Thomas Anderson's directing. Additionally, Thom Yorke's sound and score created for an incredible auditory experience.
