At Last, Completion

The time has come. I have finally finished my commercial. This has been an exceptional welcome to the not-so-wide world of AICE Media. I really enjoyed this project, being that I had total creative liberty to do virtually whatever I want. I was happy to be allowed to choose any retail product, feeling that made this assignment easier. It's always easier to do something you like! I feel that this commercial is a pretty culmination of all of my hard work. This was a great time, and I really like this class. I enjoy the substance and the work I have to do. I look forward to the next assignment!

These Boots are Made for Walking

And that's just what they'll do. Today, I began to figure out the sound for my commercial. I had still in mind that I wanted to score my commercial to "These Boots are Made for Waling" by Nancy Sinatra. I looked up the song and played through a handful of releases. Some were live versions, remasters, etc., but I ended up going with the original: keeping it classy, you know? From there, I found the least virus-infested Youtube to MP3 website I could find, which was still chock full of pop up ads. I downloaded the audio file and then my computer's screen went black. After spamming Ctrl+alt+del for way too long, I got it to work. I restarted the computer and all was well again. From there, I sent the audio file from the school email to my own email, so I could access it from my phone. I have iMovie on my phone, so it only made sense to do so. The problem is, all of my videos are bullying me. I had the film put together with the exception of music and now it won'

Today began the long, hard, long editing process. I spent the first 45 minutes of class trying to download my individual takes to my editing app and fit them together. I chose to go with iMovie, as I have little to no prior editing experience. As this year continues, I can see myself becoming more versed in editing and using  more complex software. For now, I'm happy with what's easiest. Once I finally downloaded the videos to iMovie, I had to try every one out, seeing which looked best with the next scene. I got that down pat and began working on transitions. The transitions took up a sizable amount of time. I actually had to spend a majority of the class outside in the hot sun so that I could receive cell service. The classroom doesn't have any! While standing and sweating out there, I was able to figure everything out. I tested out every single type of every single style of transition from part to part. I believe I have only two scenes that aren't separated by anythi

A Journey in Productionland

Today, I finished the filming for my commercial. On Tuesday, I finished my first couple big shots for my commercial. In a "painstaking" process of shooting and shooting, take after take, I got them done. Today, I was able to finish my filming. Knowing well what to do after my first shooting day, I went into this second one with a strange sense of familiarity. I was ready and prepared. I grabbed my sturdy sturdy cameraman friend Eric. I went down to my location for shooting. This was an on location shoot, as was last time. Today, I started with my scenes on the stairs. The first was me walking up the stairs which I was able to get right in one take. It shows me beginning to walk up the stairs, ascending the first 4 or 5 steps. After that, in terms of editing, I plan to cut to me finishing my ascent of the stairs. That shot is looking down at my feet from the top of the stairs as I make it to the top. After that, we got our two final scenes: Me turning the corner, knocking on

Beginnings of Production

Today, I finally began shooting my commercial. I rounded up my good buddy Eric and went outside and got to work. We began by scoping out working locations to shoot the commercial. We found a spot to shoot and got straight to it. We began with my first shot, which consisted of me buffing out some scuffs from the front of my boot. I had to reshoot this a handful of times from different angles, and different steadiness. I finally got it after a bunch of takes and then moved on to my second shot. That entails me walking down a hall with the camera revolving and panning around me. This also ended up taking us a while, as it took 12 takes to finally get it right. I discovered today that if my times are a little bit shorter or longer than 6 seconds per box, it would work. My commercial must be in the realm of roughly 27-30 seconds long. This is all I've done as of now, but plan on finishing next class. I still need to shoot a couple scenes. One is where I start walking up the stairs which
