Groups Blog

I'm a huge collaboration person, especially when it comes to 99% of everything related to work. I work really well in teams but often end up doing most of the work in a situation where people ride on my abilities. That just isn't good for me. On the off chance I'm assigned a good group though, I still flourish and end up doing better, having good people on my side. All of this being said, I plan to ride solo for this project. The ideas in my mind are often confusing to other people. I can confidently call myself creative. This can come across as a very in-your-face thing, and for this project which allows for infinite wiggle room, I'd like to keep those ideas in between me and you (Cambridge examiner reading this). In researching commercials, and the processes required to create them, I learned something interesting: Emmy's for commercials. Every year in the Emmy's, there is a category by the name of "The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Commercial" and that really makes me happy. Now that I know this, I have some inspiration as to what methods really work for advertising to people in an effective matter. The commercial which won for 2021 was by Nike and was called "You Can't Stop Us". It features clips of athletes split in two. On the left side of the screen, it showed a tennis player swinging his racket, and on the right, it showed a baseball batter swinging his bat. Creative decisions such as that combined with the title are very relevant to the time in which the commercial came out. In 2020, we began facing the covid crisis, which brought all of us together, whether athlete or local theater performer. The title also stands relevant, as so many industries which were "bound to fail" in a pandemic made it through and see the light at the end of the tunnel. You can't stop us is the perfect example of when advertising works, at least for me.
